Dust specks trapped in finish ruin otherwise perfect work. A tack cloth removes these particles before each coat, ensuring glass-smooth results that look professional.
What Is Tack Cloth
Tack cloth is loosely woven cheesecloth treated with a sticky resin. It picks up dust particles that regular wiping misses. Available at any hardware store for a few dollars.

Proper Technique
Unfold the tack cloth and refold it loosely. Wipe the surface lightly without pressing hard. Heavy pressure leaves residue. Replace the cloth when it stops picking up dust effectively.
Store It Right
Tack cloths dry out if exposed to air. Keep them in a sealed plastic bag or original container. A dried tack cloth becomes useless so proper storage extends their life significantly.
This simple tool prevents the most common finishing defect. Use it before every coat.
